Totally agree with you guys. I have never requested one for my work, nor did I ever apply one as an editor for a literary journal. I think trigger warnings have something to do with creating safe spaces for writers and readers, but if you are looking for a safe space, literature is not it. By nature, as James said, literature is supposed to make us confront the things we fear or do not understand.
