Who's Got Your Back?

Networking and community-building is great, but when you work alone, who’s got your back?

There’s lots of talk about networking and community, and those are great for all kinds of things, like sharing information, creating connections, and finding collaborators. But Pat’s current experience with a major life event outside of work has sparked a deeper question: When your personal life goes sideways, does someone have your back? For many creatives who work alone, our spouses, partners, siblings or children don’t know enough about what we do to step in and keep things going when we can’t be at work. We need a trusted someone—a godparent, if you will—who knows our industry well enough to handle the basics while we show up where we’re needed most.
