How to Create a Life that Fits via “Unfolding”

We’re taught to imagine a vision for our future and then set goals to achieve that vision. But what if there’s a better, easier, more interesting way to get to the life that fits you?

Here in the Gifted Underachievers clubhouse, our imaginations have been seized by the concept of “unfolding.” Pat, in particular has become obsessed with Henrik Karlsson’s essay on the topic, so much so that James needs more information to understand why. In this segment, we discuss how consciously using the framework of “unfolding” lets you create a life that’s the best fit for you—your needs, your personality, and what you love to do. Rather than setting abstract goals or chasing a vision, you use context to develop a path toward the life you could never have envisioned from where you started. Even in a jobby-job, you have room to create a better fit!

Questions for You:

  1. Have you tried unfolding?

  2. Do you like it, or do you think it’s malarkey?

  3. What is malarkey?

  4. Has it gotten you places you’d never have otherwise reached?
