Cliché, Stereotype & Always Be Interesting

Pat and James discuss cliché, stereotype, and if they are always the bane of good art.

People say that cliché, stereotype, and platitudes have no place in any creative work in any creative domain. But is this always true even if it often is? Are there cliché and stereotype safe spaces? Are they subjective/ Context dependent? Do they, perhaps, honor the artists that came before us? Pat and James don’t really know but they have thoughts…and opinions…lots of opinions.

Questions for You:

  1. Have you ever been embarrassed by your own work because it seemed cliché or derivative?

  2. How do you dig deeper to escape cliché to find something new?

  3. Do you know a truly good joke?
